Help Kill the Kraken Loop Project

Financially struggling Dominion Energy is proposing to clear cut a 120 foot wide, 70 mile swath through Louisa, Spotsylvania, Caroline, Stafford, and Fauquier counties for a 500 kV power line to try and save itself by powering AI data centers. The proposal threatens Stafford’s ecosystems, our children’s health, our property values, and our peace.

In a bizarre snub, Dominion chose to name it’s monstrous powerline after the kraken, a terrifying sea creature that emerges from the water and releases its powerful and destructive force on innocents.

We are forming a coalition of citizens to demand Dominion Energy heed input from Stafford citizens and kill the Kraken Loop before it is unleashed on Stafford’s citizenry. Join us.

Important Dates

Unfortunately, if you missed the short, one hour long online meeting with Dominion Energy on Monday, November 10, held during work hours (during which the speaker did not display the slideshow he referenced and mobile users could not submit questions), you will not have an opportunity to connect with Dominion in a group setting to hear what questions and concerns your fellow citizens have. Dominion has informed the Stafford community they will NOT hold any community-wide meetings.

Dominion Energy does not want to hear from us, but will will speak anyway. Here are some upcoming dates you need to be aware of:

  • Dominion Energy Hosted Community “Meeting” for Louisa County – Tuesday, November 18, 2025, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.; Callie Opie’s Orchard Event Barn, 4533 Zachary Taylor Highway; Mineral, VA 23117 – Folks, this is not a meeting. There will be no presentation. There will be no opportunity to hear others’ questions. It is an open house without food. You will look at posters hung on the wall and have opportunity to talk to engineers on the project. That’s it.
  • Dominion Energy Hosted Community “Meeting” for Caroline County – Thursday, November 20,2025, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.; Madison Elementary School, 9075 Chance Place, Ruther Glen, VA 22546 – Folks, this is not a meeting. There will be no presentation. There will be no opportunity to hear others’ questions. It is an open house without food. You will look at posters hung on the wall and have opportunity to talk to engineers on the project. That’s it.
  • April -June 2026 — Kraken Loop Project to be filed with Virginia SCC
  • Construction to begin 2027

Facts about the Kraken Loop Project

  • The Kraken is a monstrous, 120 foot wide clear cut corridor that cuts across the entirety of Stafford County. That’s almost as wide as I-95!
  • The Kraken will have 170 foot monopole towers carrying 500 kV power outside Stafford County to power AI data centers.
  • Dominion Energy is a financially failing company with a “Negative” credit rating from Moody’s, according to its own investor page in November 2025.
  • Dominion’s other smaller projects are loosing hundreds of millions of dollars. Will Stafford end up paying for the Kraken when Dominion collapses?
